June, 2009: Stone Forest Contributes to Eco-Friendly Home & Community

Stone Forest is proud to promote environmental responsibility and eco-friendly homes as a sponsor and contributing partner to Greenhaven, Atlanta’s newest model for green building and sustainable design.  Greenhaven  Home is located in Chelsea Landing, East Cobb’s first eco-friendly neighborhood. Greenhaven will carry the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes certification as well as showcase the latest in green building techniques, sustainable design, state-of-the-art-technology and energy efficiency.

Stone Forest supports Greenhaven through its expertise, service and product donations. Stone Forest helped Greenhaven developers to create a permeable driveway using Pavestone permeable pavers which allow rainwater to soak into the ground and return to the natural water table unlike traditional concrete driveways. Stone Forest also partnered with promatch contractor Iris Blade to create a beautiful water feature which recycles rainwater and uses energy efficient pumps to circulate the water. Finally, Stone Forest supplied Greenhaven with natural stone garnishments, a beautiful circular courtyard patio incorporating Crab Orchard Slab stone and several aesthetically pleasing dry creek beds made of smooth river rock and garden boulders.

The Greenhaven showhome will be open for public tours July 10 through August 9. Please visit www.greenhavenhome.com for more information.

Wednesday May 13th, 2009 Rain Harvest and Permeable Paver at North Metro Tech

Chad Carroll and Kelly Bors have been invited to speak to students at North Metro Technical College about Rain Harvesting and Permeable Paver Systems. Sustainability in landscaping and horticulture is the focus of the course and there is no better way to protect and preserve our natural resources than reusing water with these systems. Rain harvesting can be described as capturing rain water and storing it for future use instead of forcing it into drainage areas where it will can cause erosion and eventually leave the watershed before it has a chance to replenish the aquifers locally. Permeable paver systems are similar to rain harvesting systems except the water is slowly allowed to return to the aquifers instead of being contained for future use. Permeable paver systems can be used in place of large unsightly retention and detention ponds creating more usable space in residential and commercial applications. Both systems can be combined to produce a viable Eco friendly solution to areas affected by drought conditions and limited resources.
