Featured Project – Stack Stone Fireplace by White Oak

Stack Stone Fireplace and Entertaining Area

Preserving What Was

In January 2003, a Roswell couple called White Oak Landscape with a unique project planned. Their property was not only the site of their new home, but also the remains of a house that once stood on their land. With most of the old home disintegrated, the only reminder of the house was a stoic chimney. The couple wanted to keep this piece of history, while enhancing the area around it.

Taking on the Project

The project began with a landscape design – complete with a façade for the aging chimney. Reaching almost 20 feet under the graceful oaks, the chimney was complemented with a seating patio, flowering shrubs and a wandering pathway to complete the outdoor entertaining area.

The Finished Project

Along with having a wonderful new entertaining area for friends and family, the Roswell couple was able to preserve the historic beauty of the home that was once on their land. The homeowners were so pleased that they hired White Oak Landscape to complete several other projects at their home and have become weekly maintenance clients. This project was recognized by MALTA as a Distinction in Residential Install for 2004 and a Merit Award in 2006.

Construction

The outdoor fireplace was constructed of mainly Crab Orchard Brown stack stone with Crab Orchard Brown flagstone use as accents. This formal dry stack style was executed perfectly by White Oak’s skilled masons. Crab Orchard Brown flagstone was used to produce a beautiful patio seating area. The columns and stack stone walls are constructed from the same material as the fireplace. The pathway follows a babbling brook and was edged with Crab Orchard tumbled cobblestones and finished with a decorative aggregate.
